Nalbinding needle, curly birch wood

This nalbinding needle is made in Finland from curly birch wood. Nalbinding, or nålebinding, is an ancient craft technique. It is actually a knotless netting technique that was used to make garments and accessories before knitting and crochet took over. Nalbinding is done with a needle and with lengths of yarns.
